Reenactment of the Dedication Service as the Quebec Expedition Embarks

Tomorrow, September 20, 2025, there will be a Reenactment of the Dedication Service as the Quebec Expedition Embarks

The service will be at First Parish Church of Newbury, beginning at 11:00am and is expected to last approximately 1 hour. The public is being encouraged to begin arriving around 10:30 am.

On September 17, 1775, approximately 1000 men assembled in our area with the intent of launching an expedition to seize Quebec and the hope of enlisting the French Canadians to join in our fight for independence.

Prior to their boarding ships in Newburyport, the Rev. Samuel Spring conducted a service for the troops. He delivered a sermon to rally the troops and launch them on their way.  Upon return from the unsuccessful expedition, Rev. Spring was called to serve the Third Religious Society (North Church) and served as their pastor for 42 years.

There will be reenactors representing the troops, their leaders and the Rev. Spring.

Music for the service tomorrow will be led by our Music Director, Lance Eskelund, and our choir will be joined by singers from Central Congregational Church, Old South Presbyterian Church, Belleville Congregational Church and the Newburyport Choral Society.

Hoping to see you tomorrow,

Pastor Ray
