Thought for Today
Psalm 2:1 Why do the nations conspire, and the peoples plot in vain?
Ester 8:3 Then Esther spoke again to the king; she fell at his feet, weeping and pleading with him to avert the evil design of Haman the Agagite and the plot that he had devised against the Jews.
Acts 9:23 After some time had passed, the Jews plotted to kill him, 24 but their plot became known to Saul. They were watching the gates day and night so that they might kill him;
Acts 23:30 When I was informed that there would be a plot against the man, I sent him to you at once, ordering his accusers also to state before you what they have against him. "
Conspiracy “A conspiracy, also known as a plot, ploy, or scheme, is a secret plan or agreement between people (called conspirers or conspirators) for an unlawful or harmful purpose, such as murder, treason, or corruption, especially with a political motivation, while keeping their agreement secret from the public or from other people affected by it.” (en.wikipedia.org)
First, I do believe that conspiracies do exist. Secondly, I do not believe in any of the alleged conspiracies you or I have heard of currently. This whole subject of conspiracies seems implicit in much of the recent news coverage I have watched dealing with the flooding in Texas. The questions being asked of the elected officials during press conferences seem to imply a massive conspiracy on the part of the elected officials in Kerr County at every level of government. The conspiracy is obvious, based on the lack of warning sirens in Kerr County where there was horrific loss of life compared to nearby Comfort, Texas in Kendall County where there are warning sirens and there was no loss of life in the flooding. Evidently, proof positive of conspiracy. Regrettably, no one has offered any reason why there might be a conspiracy to cause the death of so many children, women and men in Kerr County.
Recently, I have seen news reports of congressional investigations into the actions of the former heads of the FBI and the CIA. At least in this incident of alleged conspiracy there is an offering of the alleged reason. I am generally very skeptical of all alleged governmental conspiracies simply on the basis that they would involve both cooperation and intelligence on the part of the conspirators. If they cannot deliver my mail or collect my taxes any more efficiently or compassionately, how can I believe they could possibly conspire successfully to launch any sort of plot, ploy or scheme?
Have there been successful conspiracies in human history? Yes! There are also numerous examples of failed conspiracies. Did Absalom conspire to overthrow David? Read 2 Samuel 15. How did that work out for Absalom? Read chapter 18.
Did the Jewish leadership conspire against Jesus? Obviously. They conspired to stamp out his teachings and his followers. How did that work out for those leaders? Look at the world today. “According to World Population Review, there were 2.38 billion Christians around the world in 2021.” (en.wikipedia.org) “As of 2025, the world's core Jewish population (those identifying as Jews above all else) was estimated at 15.8 million.” (en.wikipedia.org)
Did Adolph Hitler and the Nazis conspire to take over Germany and plan to then take over the world? Read Mein Kampf. Hitler published his plans in a book well in advance of their implementation. How did that work out? Some folks still believe Adolph Hitler is alive and well in hiding in South America today. Maybe he is playing in a swing band orchestra with Jimmy Hoffa?
I began with “First, I do believe that conspiracies do exist.” Are Christians conspiring to take over the world? Our intent is not much of a secret. Christians are extremely overt in our intent to spread the goods news of the gospel message. Jesus instructed us, “Matthew 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age." That’s not a conspiracy; but that is a plot, ploy and scheme in which I believe and in which I participate!
Stay safe, share the good news, trust God,
